To the Coalition of Immokalee Workers

We at the Kensington Welfare Rights Union stand in unity with the tomato pickers of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers in your current general strike for your rights to living wages, humane working conditions and health care. As poor and homeless families, we feel your struggle and see it as our own. We join you in denouncing the injustices you suffer daily and in calling for the basic human rights to living wages, health care and decent living and working conditions for all workers.

Here in the richest country in the world, the inhumane conditions in which we as poor and homeless workers and families are forced to live are intolerable. As brothers and sisters in the movement to end poverty, we stand with you and pledge our support to your current struggle. We will contact the governor to demand a just resolution to the strike. We will also spread the word about your courageous struggle around the United States and the world; as a member of the leadership body of the Labor Party, I will work to alert the other members about the strike. We will be watching carefully what happens in Immokalee over the coming days.

Furthermore, we commit ourselves to continuing to work with you toward building a massive movement in this country to end poverty, so that one day none of us will have to struggle for our basic rights to a dignified life. We know that your fight is our fight, and that the current strike represents an important step in the struggle of all workers - employed, unemployed and underemployed - for the right to a job at a living wage with health care and just and safe living and working conditions. Your efforts provide us with strength and hope and help us to continue our daily organizing work here in Philadelphia, because we know that it is only in the unity of the poor across every barrier that we will be able to achieve a world free from misery and exploitation.

Nosotros del Kensington Welfare Rights Union nos unimos con los pizcadores de tomate de la Coalicion de Trabajadores de Immokalee en su huelga general por sus derechos a sueldos justos, condiciones humanas de trabajo y cuidado de salud. Como familias pobres y sin vivienda sentimos su lucha y la vemos como la nuestra. Nos unimos con ustedes en denunciar la injusticias que sufren diaramente y en exigir sus derechos humanos basicos a sueldos justos, cuidado de salud y condiciones de vida y de trabajo digno para todos trabajadores.

Aqui en el pais mas rico del mundo, las condiciones inhumanas en que nosotros como trabajadores y familias pobres y sin vivienda estamos esforzados a vivir son insoportables. Como hermanos y hermanas en el movimiento para acabar con la pobreza, nos ponemos de pie junto a ustedes y juramos nuestro apoyo a su lucha actual. Nos comunicaremos con el gobernador para exigir una resolucion justa a la huelga. Tambien daremos saber al pais y al mundo la historia de su huelga valiente; como miembra de la junta de liderazgo del Partido Laborista, le correre la voz sobre la huelga a los otros miembros. Estaremos vigilando cercamente lo que sucede en Immokalee durante los dias que vienen.

Ademas, nos comprometimos a seguir trabajando con ustedes hacia la construccion de un movimiento masivo en este pais para acabar con la pobreza, para que un dia nadie tenga que luchar por sus derechos basicos a una vida digna. Sabemos que su lucha es nuestra lucha, y que la huelga actual representa un paso importante en la lucha de todos trabajadores - empleados, desempleados y subempleados - para los derechos a un trabajo a un sueldo justo con cuidado de salud y para condiciones de vida y trabajo seguro y justo. Sus esfuerzos nos dan fuerza y esperanza y nos ayudan a seguir con nuestro trabajo diaria de organizar aqui en Filadelfia, porque sabemos que solo es por la unidad de los pobres tras cada barrera que podremos lograr un mundo libre de miseria y explotacion.
