KWRU meets with Continental Front in Chile

Today members of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union met with organizations from the Continental Front of Community Organizations in Santiago, Chile. We met with the housing commission to discuss housing & environmental concerns in each of our countries. KWRU talked about its housing take-overs and encampments in the US and the increase in poverty in the US amongst the working poor and ongoing struggles to house ourselves as a people. We talked about our efforts to use the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and our recent petition to the Office of American States (Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, Cheri Honkala, Joy Butts vs. The United States of America) and how we see this petition as an organizing tool. People from Latin America were very excited to hear about the petition.
