Break the Media Blackout:

A Conference on Media Democracy

and the Struggle to End Poverty

GOALS

The increasing concentration of corporate ownership of our media not only threatens democracy, it also threatens the very survival of poor people in the US and globally. The media isolation of the poor has virtually disappeared large segments of the population.

The conference will build and strengthen the critical alliance between the growing media democracy movement and the movement to end poverty led by the poor as an organized force.

Independent and grassroots media efforts that document (1) this emerging movement and (2) the economic human rights violations occurring in the US will be celebrated and encouraged.

The Break the Media Blackout Conference will strengthen the media skills of grassroots anti-poverty organizations, allowing them to create and distribute their own media, critically analyze the mainstream media, and learn more about media democracy issues.

Communication is our human right!
